The best dinosaur games with dedicated servers in 2026 are The Isle (Evrima) for realism and survival as a dinosaur, Path of Titans for a crossplay dinosaur MMO on PC, console and mobile, and ARK: Survival Ascended for taming and riding dinosaurs with your tribe. ARK: Survival Evolved and PixARK are cheaper, older options. All five let you run your own server with your rules, your rates and your admins.

Play as a dinosaur or tame one?

Dinosaur games split into two very different kinds:

  • You are the dinosaur. The Isle and Path of Titans. You hatch, eat, grow and try to reach adulthood. Servers are communities with rules about realism, nesting, pack sizes and roleplay.
  • You tame the dinosaurs. ARK and PixARK. You are a human survivor who builds a base and tames dinosaurs to fight, carry and fly. Servers are tribes, rates and bases.

Pick the kind first. A group that wants to stalk prey as a pack will be bored taming parasaurs, and the other way round.

1. The Isle (Evrima)

The Isle is the dinosaur game for people who want survival to feel real. You start as a hatchling, hunt or graze to grow, and try to reach adulthood without ending up as someone else's dinner. The current branch, Evrima, is still in development by Afterthought, with species and systems added over time.

Most of The Isle's character comes from server culture. Realism servers enforce hunting and nesting rules, roleplay groups run herds and packs with their own lore, and PvP servers keep things simple. Owning the server lets you write those rules down and pick admins you trust.

What the server is like to run:

  • Game.ini holds the admin list (AdminsSteamIDs, one Steam64 ID per line), the whitelist, VIPs, playable species and mutations.
  • RCON lets staff kick, ban, message and whitelist remotely.
  • A join queue holds players in line when the server is full.
  • Players on a newer client cannot join an older server, so keep it on the latest Evrima build.
  • Memory: 8 GB for up to about 30 players, 12 GB for 50 or more, 16 GB near 100.

2. Path of Titans

Path of Titans is a dinosaur survival MMO from Alderon Games, and the only game here where PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS and Android players all share the same community servers. You play one dinosaur, grow it through questing, eating and staying alive, and join herds and packs.

Community servers carry the game's culture: realism roleplay with diet and pack rules, fast growth servers for PvP, and quiet servers for friends. Things to know when you run one:

  • The server needs a hosting token from an Alderon Games account that owns the game, or it will not register.
  • Each server needs its own GUID. Never copy one from another server.
  • Maps: Gondwa (the Island setting), Panjura and Riparia.
  • Mods load from an EnabledMods list in GameUserSettings.ini. Some mods are PC only and lock out mobile and console players, so check before adding them.
  • Memory: 8 GB for a private group, 12 GB around the default 100 slots, 16 GB toward 200 or with several big mods.

3. ARK: Survival Ascended

ARK: Survival Ascended is the Unreal Engine 5 remake of ARK and the biggest game in the taming genre. You wake up on an island full of dinosaurs, then work your way up to tamed armies, flying mounts and fortified bases. Private servers let your tribe pick the map, boost taming, XP and harvest rates, and decide between PvE and PvP.

ASA servers are cross platform, so Xbox and PlayStation players find your server under Unofficial with Show Player Servers turned on. Mods come from CurseForge by project ID, and mods marked cross platform reach console players too. Rates are in GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini.

It is one of the heaviest servers to run. The Island needs around 8 to 10 GB of memory with nobody online, so 12 GB is the realistic floor and 16 GB suits most tribes. Our plans run one map per server, and you can switch maps at any time.

4. ARK: Survival Evolved

The original ARK is still played, mostly by groups who own it already, run older mod lists or want a server that costs less than ASA. Mods come from the Steam Workshop by ID in load order, and Epic Games players can join Steam servers started with -crossplay.

The default player cap is 12 and you can raise it. Memory depends on the map: our 8 GB plan fits The Island or Ragnarok for a small tribe, 12 GB suits larger maps or mods, and big DLC maps like Genesis with mods want 16 GB. Guide: how to host an ARK: Survival Evolved server.

5. PixARK

PixARK is a blocky, voxel take on ARK from Snail Games: gather, craft, tame dinosaurs and mythical creatures, and dig straight through the world. It came out in 2019 and is not getting big updates any more, but it still has players who like its relaxed, Minecraft style survival. There is no Workshop mod scene, so servers are shaped through GameUserSettings.ini, Game.ini and admin commands. A small tribe fits on 8 GB.

Which dinosaur game should my group pick?

  • Realism, roleplay and a serious community: The Isle.
  • Friends on console, Switch or phones: Path of Titans, the only one with mobile crossplay.
  • Taming, breeding and big bases with a tribe: ARK: Survival Ascended.
  • A cheaper server, older hardware or a favorite old mod list: ARK: Survival Evolved.
  • Something lighter and blocky: PixARK.

FAQ

What is the best dinosaur game to play with friends?

ARK: Survival Ascended if you want to tame and ride dinosaurs together, and Path of Titans if you want to play as dinosaurs, especially with friends on console or mobile.

Can you play as a dinosaur on your own server?

Yes. The Isle and Path of Titans both run community dedicated servers where you play as a dinosaur, with your own rules, admins and whitelist.

Does Path of Titans have crossplay on community servers?

Yes. PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS and Android players can join the same community server, as long as the mods on it support their platform.

How many players can a The Isle server hold?

You set the player count, and most big Evrima servers stop at 100 because performance drops past that.

Which dinosaur game needs the most RAM to host?

ARK: Survival Ascended. The Island alone uses around 8 to 10 GB with nobody online, so 12 to 16 GB is normal.
