The best DayZ server mods for most community servers are Community Framework (the base most mods need), an admin tool like VPPAdminTools or Community Online Tools, a trader such as TraderPlus or the DayZ Expansion Market, and BaseBuildingPlus or Code Lock for bases. Add a community map like Deer Isle or Namalsk if you want something other than Chernarus. Below are the mods we would actually pick for each job, with their Steam Workshop IDs, all live and updated on the Workshop as of October 2026.

Quick picks

Job Mod Workshop ID
Framework CF (Community Framework) 1559212036
Framework Dabs Framework 2545327648
Admin VPPAdminTools 1828439124
Admin Community-Online-Tools 1564026768
All in one overhaul DayZ-Expansion-Bundle 2572331007
Trader TraderPlus 2458896948
Base building BaseBuildingPlus 1710977250
Base security Code Lock 1646187754
Furniture and storage MuchStuffPack 1991570984
Map DeerIsle 1602372402
Map Namalsk Island + Namalsk Survival 2289456201, 2289461232

Each mod's Workshop page lists its Required items. Add those too, and load them first.

Frameworks: install these first

CF (Community Framework), 1559212036. A shared library that a huge share of DayZ mods are built on, including Community Online Tools and DayZ Expansion. If you run more than two or three mods, you will almost certainly need it. It goes first in the load order.

Dabs Framework, 2545327648. Another shared library. DayZ Expansion needs it, so it goes right after CF on Expansion servers.

Frameworks do nothing on their own. Only add one when a mod you want lists it as required.

Admin tools

VPPAdminTools, 1828439124. A clean admin menu with teleports, item spawning, player management and permission groups for your staff. The easiest admin tool to get running: add your Steam64 ID to one text file and you are in.

Community-Online-Tools, 1564026768. Made by the authors of Community Framework, with detailed roles and permissions, ESP, teleporting, item and vehicle spawning and weather control. Needs CF.

Pick one. Setup for both is in DayZ server admin tools and commands.

DayZ Expansion: the big overhaul

DayZ-Expansion-Bundle, 2572331007. Expansion is the most popular way to turn vanilla DayZ into a different game. The bundle adds a market and trader system, a full base building system with territories, quests, parties, a map with markers, more vehicles and plenty more, all designed to work together. It needs CF and Dabs Framework.

DayZ-Expansion-AI, 2792982069. An optional add on with AI characters, for patrols and hostile groups.

Our take: Expansion is the right call if you want a "full" community server with traders, safe zones and missions without stitching ten mods together. It is a lot to configure, so read its setup documentation before your players join. If you want vanilla with a few extras, skip it and pick single purpose mods below.

Traders and economy

TraderPlus, 2458896948. A standalone trader with buy and sell menus, prices you control in config files, and support for safe zones and vehicle sales. A good fit when you want traders without the rest of Expansion.

Expansion Market, part of the Expansion bundle above. If you already run Expansion, use its market rather than adding a second trader mod.

Whichever you choose, the money and items players trade are only as balanced as your price list, so expect to tune it during the first weeks.

Base building

BaseBuildingPlus, 1710977250. Swaps the vanilla fence and watchtower style for modular walls, floors, roofs, doors and stairs you snap together. Much closer to what players expect from a survival base builder.

Code Lock, 1646187754. Adds code locks for doors, gates, tents and containers. One of the most subscribed DayZ mods and a near standard on PvP servers, because combination locks alone are easy to crack.

MuchStuffPack, 1991570984. Furniture and storage: lockers, crates, shelves and more, so bases are worth decorating and loot has somewhere tidy to live.

On Expansion servers, Expansion's own base building and code locks cover most of this, so check for overlap before stacking them.

Maps

Map Workshop ID Notes
DeerIsle 1602372402 A large island map with lots of points of interest, one of the longest running community maps
Namalsk Island + Namalsk Survival 2289456201 and 2289461232 A cold, harsh map with its own survival mechanics. Load both: the island and the survival mod
Banov 2415195639 A Central European style map, updated in 2026
TakistanPlus 2563233742 A desert map, updated in 2026

A community map ships its own mission folder, and your serverDZ.cfg template must point at it. Follow the map's own instructions for the mission files.

Want something new without mods? Bohemia's Badlands expansion adds Nasdara, the largest official map, on 15 October 2026. Players need the expansion to join it.

Weapons, gear and vehicles

SNAFU Weapons, 2443122116. A big pack of extra weapons and attachments, kept updated in 2026.

WindstridesClothingPack, 1797720064. Extra clothing and gear, popular on roleplay and PvE servers.

RedFalcon Flight System Heliz, 2692979668. Flyable helicopters. Fun on large maps, and a reason to keep an eye on server performance.

Every weapon and clothing pack adds items that only spawn once you add them to your loot tables. The mod normally includes a types.xml snippet. See how to edit loot on a DayZ server.

How to choose a mod list

  • Start small. Five mods that work beat twenty that conflict. Add one, restart, test, then add the next.
  • Check the last update. DayZ updates break mods. A mod updated this year is a safer bet than one untouched for several.
  • Watch your download size. Every client mod is a download for every player. Big map and weapon packs can push it into many gigabytes, which loses you casual joiners.
  • Mind your RAM. A vanilla server runs well on 8 GB. Expansion or a trader stack wants 12 GB, and a big mod list with a community map wants 16 GB. See how much RAM a game server needs.

How to add mods to your server

Self hosting means downloading each mod with SteamCMD, copying its folder and its .bikey key, and building a -mod= line in the right order. How to install mods on a DayZ server walks through it.

On GamezServers it is one setting. Put the Workshop IDs in Workshop mods with an @ in front and a semicolon after each, in load order:

@1559212036;@1828439124;@1710977250;@1646187754;

Or export your mod list from the DayZ Launcher and upload it. On the next start we download every mod, keep them updated and copy their keys so signature checks pass. Players join through the DayZ Launcher, which downloads the same mods for them.

FAQ

Do players need to download the server's mods?

Yes, for every mod in the normal -mod list. The DayZ Launcher does it automatically when they join from the launcher. Server side only mods, loaded with -serverMod, are not downloaded.

What load order should DayZ mods use?

Frameworks first (CF, then Dabs Framework), then big mods built on them like Expansion, then everything else. Maps usually go near the start too. If a mod's page gives an order, follow it.

Why do players get kicked after I add a mod?

Usually a missing key or a version mismatch. Updating the mods and restarting fixes most cases. See the signature check kick fix.

Can I run DayZ mods on console servers?

No. Workshop mods are PC only. Xbox and PlayStation servers run vanilla DayZ.

Is DayZ Expansion worth it for a small friend group?

Only if you want traders, quests and safe zones. For a few friends who like vanilla survival, a couple of small mods like Code Lock and BaseBuildingPlus are less work and less to download.
