# How much RAM does my game server need?

Pick your game and the row that sounds like your server, and you get the RAM it needs and the plan that has it. The numbers are the same RAM guides each game page uses, written for that game: a vanilla Minecraft server for a few friends needs far less than a modded ARK server or a 60 player DayZ server.

## How it works

Each game has its own RAM guide, from a small group to big, modded or crowded servers, because the game decides most of the memory a server uses, not just the player count.

The plan shown is the smallest one with at least that much RAM. Prices are monthly, and every plan can be upgraded later without losing the world.

Mods, big worlds and long uptimes all add memory. If you are between two rows, take the bigger one.

## Example

A Valheim server for a small group of friends needs about 4 GB, while a modded Valheim server with a full crew of 10 needs more. The calculator shows the RAM for each kind of server and the plan that covers it, with its monthly price.

## FAQ

### Does more RAM make a server faster?

Only up to what the game needs. Past that, single core CPU speed matters more. Too little RAM causes lag spikes, crashes and long saves.

### Why do modded servers need so much more RAM?

Every mod adds items, blocks or creatures the server keeps in memory, and big modpacks load thousands of them.

### Can I start small and upgrade later?

Yes. On our servers you can move to a bigger plan any time and keep the same world, files and address.

### How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?

About 2 GB for a few friends on vanilla or Paper, and more for modpacks and bigger groups. The calculator has the full guide.
