# Minecraft server.properties editor

Change the server.properties settings you care about and copy the result. Paste your current file first and we keep every other line and comment, change only what you touch, and warn you about keys Mojang removed, such as pvp and allow-nether, which now live in game rules.

Use it free at https://gamezservers.com/tools/minecraft-properties

## How it works

Defaults are those of current Minecraft Java: since 26.3 a new server has white-list=true, which keeps everyone out until you whitelist people.

Presets set the usual changes in one click: "Friends survival" turns on the whitelist and sets normal difficulty with no spawn protection, "Busy or modded server" lowers view and simulation distance to save CPU.

Keys that no longer do anything are flagged with the game rule that replaced them, because the server silently ignores them.

## Example

A pasted file with pvp=false and difficulty=easy, edited to normal difficulty, comes back with difficulty=normal, every other line unchanged, and a note that pvp was removed in 1.21.9 and should be set with /gamerule pvp false.

## FAQ

### Why can nobody join my new Minecraft server?

Since 26.3, white-list defaults to true. Add players with whitelist add Name, or set white-list=false.

### Where did the pvp setting go?

It was removed from server.properties in 1.21.9. Use /gamerule pvp false in the server console instead.

### What view distance should I use?

8 to 10 on small servers, 6 to 8 on busy or modded ones. Simulation distance saves more CPU than view distance.

### Do I need to restart after editing?

Yes. The server reads server.properties when it starts. World type and seed only apply when a new world is made.
